What Are The Strongest Dog Collars Available And Can Other People Hurt Your Dog If They Escape?

A reader asked..
My dog is young but she already broke two collars, one of which was metal. What is the strongest I can get her that won't be too unconfortable for her? Also, some guy kicked my dog after she snapped her and ran down the street and then threatened to call animal control on her. She has never done anything bad at all to anyone. Can he do that?

Why is she breaking her collars? Is she tied out on a chain?

YOU SHOULD BUY A HARNESS IT WORKS GREAT AND ITS HARDER FOR YOUR DOG TO CHEW THROUGH IT.

you should get a dog harness. i use it for my dog when i walk him because he is long and hard to control. they sell them at petco and stuff and they are really good.

Train your dog to heel, and she won’t break collars. If she is on a tie out, then she is probably way bored and under exercised and stimulated.
Get a halti lead to use on walks.

Training your dog to heel is great advice, I would imagine if she is pulling hard enough to break her collar she could end up hurting her throat(esophagus, and trachea).

I know where your coming from! I have 3 American Bulldogs and the only collar that holds them is the really wide leather ones. Try the feed store. The ones in most stores are fake leather & brake too. If the feed store does not have one, try pet-smart or a vet clinic. I get mine from an out door flea market. They ppl special make them for large strong dogs.

Train your dog not to pull. If she is pulling hard enough to break her collar then she is pulling hard enough to potentially damage her trachea and esophagus. Try using a properly fitted pinch collar on walks.
As far as other people harming your dog. Yes if they feel your dog is charging at them, threatening them etc they have a right to defend themselves by what ever means the feel necessary. Also in most areas if your dog gets loose and is chasing livestock it can legally be shot and killed. As far as him calling animal control he most defiantly can. It is your responsibility to keep your dog under control at all times. If she is breaking her collar and running off she is not under your control and you are in violation of the law

if the dog was on his property i think he can get away with anything.
but if it wasnt on his property, wasnt harming him or the propery or any other animals he could probably get in deep trouble for attacking her. that is a serious issue.
maybe chain collars and leashes are the strongest.

You may want to look into a dog halter if she is breaking dog collars.
As for the guy who kicked your dog, animal abuse is worse than a dog accidentally running loose. I would have called the cops on that guy so fast his head would have spun. In fact, I suggest you still file a report against the guy so it is at least on file.

if your dog is breaking collars, then you are either buying cheap collars, or you are not buying the proper size, or fitting it on her properly.
Nylon and leather collars with metal buckles are good.
If your dog is loose, then someone has the right to defend themselves if they feel threatened by your dog.. yes.
