they are such clever little dogs – love my two though they're not nearly so well trained as Daisy – they LOVE their walkies on the beach and in the New Zealand bush where I live

I had a sheltie named Sydney. She died July 31st 2015. She was a big old lovable girl. She didn't like thunderstorms and her breath was horrid though. But I miss her every day. She died from a seizure that formed a blood clot in her brain making her brain dead.

The one thing I hate about living in Nevada is the only dog breeds you see are Pitbulls and Chihuahuas. Not very much variety.

oh my god i remember the first time i got nintendogs when i was 8 and my first dog on there was a sheltie and i named her "Rosea" meant to be pronounced "Rosa" but as i grew i called her "Rosie" because Rosea is actually pronounced like that.

Sheltie = small, furry human being sharing your home, more or less. Not to be disrespectful to dogs in general, but if you've never been fortunate enough to share your home with a Sheltie, let me warn you: they are SO SMART it can almost be scary. They. will. occasionally. understand. your. every. word. (Think Lassie — improbable intelligence and all — in a smaller package, and with a slightly shorter nose.)

They rank six in intelligence out of <however many> dog breeds??? Ha ha ha. The Sheltie was probably smarter than the tester.

Also, not all Shelties are terribly barky (or high-strung, once they're out of puppyhood). The shedding is a HUGE issue, though — (adorably) woolly fuzz everywhere in your home, basically.

Finally — hypothyroidism and epilepsy? First time I've ever heard about these being a problem (statistically) for Shelties… Our Sheltie lived for 18 years(!!) and eventually died (sob) of kidney failure, which is incredibly common in very senior dogs.
