Excellent video. Although it must be very expensive in the US because in Europe my Husky costs about €550 a year.

Obviously year 1 was the most expensive because I had to buy everything from kennels, bowls, crate, brushes, toys, leads, neutering, multiple vet visits, puppy food, insurance etc etc for a grand total of €2060. But year 2 onwards (and luckily my husky is healthy), my costs are approx €550. That's 1 vet visit €75 including yearly treatments, insurance €160, pet license €20, treats/dentastix €50, Miscellanous €100, Food €140.

Food – I feed mine left overs and top it up with dog food – as long as you're careful with things like not putting in chicken bones etc. She loves scraps and its completely healthy – you'd be surprised how much you throw out that your dog would happily eat, like ham that is just past it's use by date – dogs love it and if you were to eat it, you'd be fine too, it's just that as humans we're spoilt and like to eat everything fresh. Fish – really good for their coat. Vegetables with gravy yum. A little cheese – not too much, Pasta, pizza etc, whatever's just out of date or left over dinner. If left overs are too much, I split it over a couple of evenings and always top it up with dry dog mix. Keep an eye on their weight as it's harder to judge how much they're getting. Remember they dig up mouldy bones that have been in the ground for weeks and eat those with no problems, so don't worry too much. There are people on this planet that eat less well than my dogs.

Grooming – I do my own grooming every 3 months or so, but instead of buying the expensive dog shampoo at €16 for 250ml (I'd need about 3 bottles), I buy Baby shampoo at €2 for 1lt. I use almost all the bottle in 1 wash and also 1 bottle of conditioner. Dog is perfect afterwards. As long as you're not washing your dog too regularly, you'll be fine. I keep mine outdoors most of the time, only in the house a few hours a day so this works well for me. Different opinions on this – some people say to only use dog shampoo, but I remember as a kid no-one ever bought dog shampoo. The posh dogs might get human shampoo but most of us just used washing up liquid. Dogs were always fine.

Just before I get loads of hate comments about how I mistreat my dogs – I have 2 dogs 4 years old and I love them to bits. I walk them and bring them to the beach and make sure they have everything they need. But at the end of the day, they are still dogs and much hardier than we think. Let them be dogs, roll in the dirt and eat what they want. A happy dog is a healthy dog.

I got my dog for free and use low cost clinics for shots and spay. The best advice I would give is to buy quality food for your dog to prevent future problems from years of poor nutrition. Also go to your local shelter or clinic to buy dog supplies that have been used. I bought two leashes(over $30) for $2 each and stainless steel bowls for $1. I hear that many vets will give you a discount if you tell them you cannot afford the costs. Idk how true that is but it's worth a shot. . Owning a dog can be expensive but there as ways to cut costs if needed.

Big time shedders, not very bright and if they get off leash they are gone. I'll never get one again although I admire the breed.

I had a Huskey/Wolf mix till he died in back in February. His name was Duke. He was the best dog a owner could ask for. He was a big baby and wouldn't harm a fly. All he wanted was for you to give him belly rubs. I'm defiantly getting another one in the future.
