Royal Canin Shih Tzu Dry Dog Food, 2.5-Pound Bag

I’ve been reading some very positive comments here on the food itself, however also reading a few complaints about the price.

Here’s something that may help the more frugal shoppers. IDK about your area but I DO know that in Southern CA, there is usually a Royal Canin Rep at either petco or petsmart, on Saturday AND Sunday, between the hours of 10am and 2PM Just ask them for a coupon. You could get up to $4.00 off!

Coupon or not, the food is worth it!

Buyer Beware! Product has changed for the worse. I had been feeding my Shih Tzu Royal Canin Shih Tzu 24 since I adopted her. The first ingredient was chicken meal. As of January, 2015 you can no longer get Shih Tzu 24. They have substituted a new product called
Royal Canin Shih Tzu. Much, much less chicken. The first two ingredient for Royal Canin Shih Tzu are Brewers Rice and Brown Rice. It’s just not the same product. With their new formula it is not as nutritious and my dog no longer likes it. I wrote to Royal Canin to see if they are still carrying the Shih Tzu 24 but got no response. Interesting there is no longer a trade mark symbol under Royal Canin for this product.

Luckily I picked a free sample of Natural Balance Synergy Ultra Premium Dog Food today. 1st ingredient for this product is chicken. It’s not the perfect shape for Shih Tzu’s as the Royal Canin but I put it in a saucer instead of a bowl for my Lucy and she had no problems picking up the bits. She ate it right up. Came back for seconds. Shih Tzu’s have sensitive stomachs so I’ll be monitoring her on this new food and hoping for the best.
