Dachshunds are smart hound dogs known for its independence and stubbornness. Their strong character makes them very difficult to train. It is very joyful to have a trained dachshunds but it is frightening to have an untrained dachshunds. It needs a lot of determination, patience and regularity to train a dachshund to make it friendly and well behaved.
The suitable time to start training your dachshund is when they are little. It is easier to make them familiar with good habits from the beginning than trying to remove their bad habits later. While training your dachshund, make sure that it behaves you as a master. Avoid any mistakes that make it feels you are not being strict. The strong personality of dachshund can make the owner difficult to be strict towards it. This can spoil the training process. In most of the cases, it is found that the misbehavior shown by the dog is not its mistake but the mistake of the owner who can't train his/her dog properly.
Praise you dachshund whenever it performs an act properly. They react properly when positive teaching method is used. Small puppies will be happy and show positive changes when a master praises its activity.
Dachshunds are fast learner. They are capable of learning any tricks quickly if they have interest. Training including games can be a good way to change their behavior. They show positive reaction to the training process when they feel it is interesting. Some simple games can be used in the training process. Once your dachshund feels that the training process is fun, it eagerly waits for another training session.
Don't forget your little puppy is not a person. It is an animal. It doesn't have a good memory to remember all the things done in the past. Only the things that are done in present remain in their memory. They live in the present, so try to train it again and again.
Like human, your dachshund also needs exercise. It doesn't mean to let them play on your backyard. It is necessary to give long walks to your dachshund daily. Generally, dachshunds are active and energetic dog. If they are kept within certain perimeter of your house, their energy may cause certain bad impact on your surroundings. So, the most important thing in dachshund training process is to learn to walk it properly.
