What’s Your Dog’s Favorite Summer Activity?

A Reader Asks…

There is nothing Judge loves more than to be on the hunt… butt on the ground, ears high up and tense, eyes focused on the hill on the backyard through the glass in our back door. Then when he sees a rabbit, he gets up and bays hoping some of us will be dumb enough to let him go (which sadly happens all too often). If he gets out then he ALWAYS has to run into a particular neighbor's yard while I get my shoes and his , if he stays in well… our door is starting to look less and less like a door.
So how about ?

Sheep, always sheep. My dogs favorite activity, by a long shot is herding. While there are other things she enjoys, such as frisbee, herding is the one thing she will enjoy endlessly.
The answer is sheep, always sheep.

He loves to lie in the dirt in our garden until he’s gasping and we have to force him to come in:) Silly puppy. He also likes to go for a walk downtown so he can meet and greet everyone with his big grin and wiggly bum:)

My dog can’t go outside except to potty because she’s heat sensitive, so I have this “flying pig” in my room that hangs from the ceiling and she loves for me to turn it on so it will fly and she can chase it around and around for hours.

One likes to curl up gracefully on the couch and shoot disdainful looks at the romping, bigger dogs (the Shiba Inu). She doesn’t “do” outside play. 😛
My boyfriend’s dog will play frisbee until he collapses.
And my hound girl loves to jump around in a kiddie pool.

My dogs love to go swimming in the creek. It cools them off and keeps them (And their fur) out of the swimming pool. I take them to the beach at least twice a month now too and we sometimes rent a boat and go fishing, but they have to where life jackets. (Still doesn’t stop them from jumping overboard 5 metres out to sea)
My dogs are water babies and since their breed has waterproof coats I’m fine with it. To be honest I think that if they were to be any other species it’s be a fish or a dolphin.

Well, I haven’t gone anywhere with my dog(s) for years, but I remember everything from taking them camping to taking them (one of them) to Canada. Wow, he got around back then. Now, he hardly gets to do anything. I ask my mom if I can take him for a walk, but now there are other pooches and they wail like mad, so she won’t let me take him, and he is overweight.

Dakota LOVES to chase the birds away from their feeder. She’ll ask to go outside and as soon as the door opens a crack she pushes her way through and runs after them. Of course this gets her all excited so she runs laps around our fenced in backyard, looking for other “intruders”. This is usually followed by laps in her kiddie pool. =]

He likes to sit in our yard at the bottom of the tree watching the “squirrel” that supposedly is up in it (more often then none there is no squirrell). He sits there for hours on end until one of us calls him in.
Or he barks at the neighbor dogs and pretends he’s tough but when they bark back he tucks his tail and runs to my dad.
When we go out in the backyard and put up the slip ‘n’ slide he chases us as we run down it. Then when we aren’t looking he gingerly walk across it and we yell, “Skipper!” and he gives us that look like, “Who? Me?”

My big ones LOVE to run on the beach, which is just a short walk away..One of them dives off the rocks into the surf..comes up sputtering and goes right back..
The smaller doxie/terrier mix LOVES to go hiking/backpacking.
This is my first summer with the Chihuahua, so I don’t know what he loves yet..Haven’t had many warm days to find out.
He sure enjoyed playing on the dry beach, on lead..He loves the other dogs at the Farmer’s Market. He’s fascinated by the squirrels and seagulls.
