Lost Yorkie returned to Sevier County family

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – A week after a family lost their pet Yorkie following a car accident, a stranger reunited the dog with its family.

On March 23, Sara Portwood’s family was involved in a car accident along Highway 321 in Lenoir City.

“The car flipped several times and the windows were busted out when it happened Sadie and Coco the other dog flew from the car,” said Portwood.

No one was injured, but the two Yorkies, Sadie and Coco, were thrown from the vehicle. A good Samaritan later found Sadie and returned her to Portland’s dad. But Coco was nowhere to be found.

6 News shared their story on Thursday, and people from all over East Tennessee shared Coco’s picture and called in tips.

Then on Saturday, strangers found Coco wandering in their backyard. They saw Portwood’s phone number and information on Coco’s collar, so they immediately called her.

Coco was reunited with Sadie and Sara in Sevierville on Sunday.

“When I saw her, I didn’t want to let her go,” said Portwood. “I was just praising God. I was so thankful that God had brought us back together.”

Sadie suffered a broken leg from the accident. says Coco seems dehydrated, and doesn’t appear to be injured, but Coco will be examined at the veterinarian Monday to be sure.

says both dogs will also be microchipped as soon as possible.

says she received a lot of advice from the Sevier County Missing Pets group. You can visit their Facebook here.

You have to start obedience early with these dogs, to train them to go
potty fast and to not bark or nip. They LOVE kids too, especially if they
come from a household where there are kids, socialization at an early age
    is the key!
