Beagle Club to host Jim Stearns’ Memorial Rabbit Hunt

The Stearns' will be held Saturday at the located at the end of Oakes Road (off Hasting Road), just north of Olean on Route 16.

This contest is open to the public, and hunters need not own beagles to participate.

Each hunter must have a current Small Game license either New York's or Pennsylvania's, depending upon hunt location, and be registered prior to the contest.

Participants may register at the clubhouse on Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. or by mailing registration forms(available at along with the $ 5 per person entry fee to , 3477 Wolf Creek Road, Cuba, NY 14727.

Contest rules include each competitor may enter only one freshly harvested cottontail rabbit; the rabbit must be relatively free of dirt, water, mud, etc.; the hunter is to field dress the harvest before entering property; and rabbits must be weighed at the clubhouse no later than 3 p.m.

Hunting is not permitted within the club's acreage.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the lightest, the Youth heaviest, the adult heaviest and second heaviest.

Food and drink will be available. will not be provided.

Immediately following the contest will be the club's fundraiser --a Chinese auction for $ 6,000 in prizes. One does not have to participate in the hunt to enjoy the fundraiser festivities.
