How do I describe a German Shepherd without saying “German Shepherd” ?

Question by : How do I a “German Shepherd” ?

Im writing a fiction that includes one but that universe is so different, they would never give the beast the same name as we do. That is way I can’t say “German Shepherd”

    Every body knows what a German Shepherd looks like, so what is your problem here? If they ask “what does he look like”, just say “uh, he looks like a German Shepherd”.

    Used in the police force.
    German Origin.
    Brown, and Black, are most common colors for it.

    I don’t get the question? Why would you not just say German Shepherd?
