By using local resources, such as friends, neighbors, newspapers, and doing some research online you can get a list of quality pet boarding facilities. Word of mouth is going to be beneficial because someone with a good review is going to want to share the pet boarding company with anybody that asks for input. Those with bad experiences will also feel the same way, wanting to share a negative view about a company after having a bad experience. Don't look for a place that is the cheapest because this might mean they are not going to give good care to your pet, making the pet uncomfortable and even causing them to get sick sometimes.
Once you have narrowed it down to a few choices, you can go to the facility to determine the best one out of all of them. Once you are there, you should take note of the outside and surrounding area. If you have a dog, does it look like they could escape easily? Is the place nice and clean from the outside? Does it look deserted?
Walking into the facility, you should feel welcomed and comfortable. Get acquainted with the people who would be caring for your pet. Asking questions is the best way to get as much information as you can. Ask if your pet will be provided with food or if you should bring your own, discuss the safety features, and see if there is a vet around the facility for emergencies. Discuss any special needs your pet has and see if they will accommoda
te the needs.
A staff member should be able to show you around the building, showing you where your pet will be sleeping and playing. There should be plenty of room in the area where your pet sleeps so they feel safe and secure. They should also provide your pet with daily exercise so they can play and stretch while getting some sun.
After seeing the facility you will know if it's the right place for your pet. You should feel comfortable in the decision to leave your pet for multiple days there, knowing they will be well taken care of and safe. What can be a stressful choice can turn into a great opportunity that your pet will enjoy.
