Pet Insurance for the Harrier

The is an AKC registered dog breed. The following article reviews the breed.

The Harrier originated in Great Britain in the 13th century, making it one of the oldest scent hounds in existence. Harriers were popular with all walks of life, from the upper class to the common people. Both groups used the Harrier as a hunting since they were able to keep up with the upper class who hunted on horses, but also stayed close to the poor people who didn’t have horses and had to hunt on foot.

While the Harrier has been in the United States for decades, it never really caught on in popularity. Still today, they are not commonly found in the show ring or as family pets. In fact, it was listed at number 165 in the list of the most popular breeds in the United States in 2010, as stated by the American Kennel Club.

It’s a mystery why these dogs are not more popular as pets, as they have all the qualities of a good companion animal. They are friendly, tolerant, and good with children, making them a great for a family. They are also quite playful and outgoing and have great personalities. The breed requires only moderate upkeep. For example, the needs only occasional brushing. These dogs do require a lot of exercise, though, like a long walk, jog, or play session a day.

The one major pet health condition this breed is known for is hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is a condition of the ball and socket hip joints where the ball does not properly into the socket. While this condition can be quite expensive to treat, it is common and has a great success rate. Most dogs who are treated regain a full and healthy lifestyle. As far as the cost of treatment, pet insurance is one option for pet owners who may not have the disposable income to pay a large veterinary bill.

Harriers have a smooth, short that can come in any color, but is usually seen in red and white.

They stand between 19 and 21 inches tall and weigh between 35 and 60 pounds. These dogs are known to live to be between twelve and fourteen years old.
