Q&A: What is a good knot that I can use to attach a 2inch steel ring to the end of a1/4 inch rope?

Question by rubeninfl: What is a that I can use to a 2 to the end of inch ?
I want to attach a 2inch steel ring to a segment of 1/4 rope. Kind of how that metal clip is attached to the end of a dog leash. The rope that I’m using is Nylon. Can anyone tell me how to do this so it’s nice and neat? I’ve looked at alot of boating knots but none of them are neat. They all leave a tail piece after the knot is tied that can’t be cut short.

one is called an eye splice. tou split up the braids and reweave them back into the fall line after forming a loop. I can’t tell you how here, but, find a rope riggers book. It’s a basic procedure.

If permanent use the Eye Splice or Chain Splice and if you want to be able to remove them I suggest the Bowline on the Bight.
You should to be able to find what your looking for on this site, which I think is fairly good.

P.S. Check out the Sliding Splice under decorative knots.

I agree with jtexas the eye splice is the way to go. If you have braided nylon simply take a ballpoint pin apart and use the bottom half as a fid. Put the end of the line in the top end. Then put the pointed end into the center of the line and push. bring the fid out say four inches down the line, but leave the end of the line inside.

Use an eye splice with a thimble. go to fish4fun.com. (a thimble is a u-haped metal piece that goes in the eye of the splice to prevent chafing from the metal ring)

I agree with the splice suggestion, shouldn’t be too difficult to find some how-to on the web, I know I’ve read about in a couple different places.
