BEDFORD, BEDFORD COUNTY – The McMullen family’s new puppy was supposed to bring comfort after it faced a string of misfortunes.
Jim McMullen almost died after suffering a high-blood sugar levels from undiagnosed diabetes, and his 8-year old daughter Nicole was recovering after falling into a fire.
“It was touch and go there,” said Liann McMullen, wife of Jim and mother of Nicole. “He [the puppy] was helping with the healing process.”
Just weeks after receiving the Jack Russell Terrier puppy, someone stole it while the McMullen’s were grabbing a bite to eat at the RG Food Shop in Bedford.
“The dog was sitting on my husband’s driver seat,” McMullen said. “He was inside his hunting coat, nice and warm.”
Jim McMullen added that his low blood sugar prompted he and his wife to stop and quickly get something to eat.
The McMullen’s returned to their car to find the dog was gone. They acknowledged leaving the doors unlocked, but never imagined their puppy would be stolen.
“We looked around for paw-prints in the snow and didn’t see any,” she said. “I can’t fathom how somebody could just take a puppy.”
Bedford police investigated the puppy theft and have identified a man in surveillance photos they would like to question.
Puppy Details:
The puppy is a three month old Jack Russell Terrier with black and white markings. It is reported to have a black line down the middle of its back and a black toe nail on its right front paw.
If you have any information on the man in the surveillance photo, or any knowledge of the puppy’s whereabouts, Bedford PSP would like you to call 814-623-6133.
