Ideal pet doors not so ideal,
The Ideal pet doors are not very durable. I have three large dogs (Labs and border collie) and they run in and out all day long; often crashing through the door at high speeds. At least twice a year I have to replace the flap, because it starts to tear at the top where it attaches to the pet door. I am looking to replace this door with a better door, because it’s too costly to keep buying a new flap. Also, the flap does not fit very snuggly so wind and rain constantly blow the door open. My husband, a master carpener, installed the pet door, so it was installed correctly. It’s just not the best design.
This door would probably be more appropriate for pets that are less rambunctious as mine. This door would also do better on a covered porch where there is some protection from the rain and wind. My pet door is not under a covered porch and everytime it rains, I get a huge puddle in the house.

|The perfect dog door,
This was easy to install- we followed the instructions and it was in the door in about 10 minutes. The dogs love it-and I love that we can close the door at night so that outside animals and cats can’t enter our home. I suggest adding caulking on the outdoor edge- but other than that we love it and the price could not be beat. This fit our dogs (69 and 49lbs- both 10.5″ chests).
