I buy a lot of domains each year – and, I renew a lot of domains. And, on top of that, I am cheap. I hate paying “retail” for anything, even if it’s just a few dollars. So, I make use of promo codes to buy and renew all of the domains I buy – even if it only saves me a couple bucks.
Here’s how it’s done.
Let’s say you’ve researched and located the perfect domain name. Of course you used Godaddy.com to find it – nearly everyone does. I’ve used them for years as my registrar, and even though lots of “gurus” try to sell you on other services (usually their own affiliate program), it never hurts to go with the biggest registrar out there.
Generally, the retail price for a new .com is between $9.99 and $11.99. I never, ever pay that. I search for and find some sort of promo code – either for a specific price ($6.99 or $7.99 is common), or some sort of percent off discount (20% – 30%). A good place to start is Godaddy Promo Code .Net.
When you get to the point in your shopping cart just before you pay, there is a place to put your promo code. It’s easy – click on the promo code link and type the promo code in. When it’s accepted by the shopping cart, you will see the discount taken off the total displayed.
Here’s a few promo codes to get you started:
cjc749chp will get you a new .com for $7.99
cjc795dom will get you a, $8.49 renewal
cjcchp20 get you 20% off everything in the shopping cart (good if you have .net or .orgs domains in your cart)
Keep in mind, there are occasionally .info or .co promo codes as well.
So, check out the promo codes the next time you decide to buy a domain and save yourself a few bucks. It’s easy, and for many of us, it’s habit.
