Your vet can help

Also, I would assume increasing the amount of exercise that he gets now and decreasing the amount of food that he gets now…should help.

More Xercise, less food. Until Ideal weight is reached. Sealions don’t hangout near the ocean shoreline where most dog walking takes place. I have two retrievers & live a block away from the ocean. I use a “chuck it” ball launcher & we play fetch & swim along the ocean beach each morning at sun up. This keeps them well Xercised & tired.

Teach him to play fetch. Your dog was bred as a hunting dog. He will love the game of fetching a ball or a frizbee.
And it will trim him down.

Stores sale diet dog food just like humans. Now, I don’t know if your dog will like it, but you can try. Also, a dog should never have “free” feeding where they have food out for them all day. Have him on scheduled feedings every day, where you would control when he eats and how much he eats (and also helps with disciplinary issues).
And it is very important to take him out for a run every day.

how long it will take depends on how much your dog has to lose. Just take him for more walks and feed him a healthier dog food. There are lots of good dog food these days for obese dogs.
I would recommend reading the article below.

There are dog foods that will help slim him down. Ask your vet for a preference. I’ll tell you the BEST doggie game you could do… FETCH!! This will help get your dog the exercise he needs and not wear you out completely! I had a Jack Russell for a bit who we put on Nutro diet.. (before Nutro went all bad-dog-food) That with fetch was an ideal answer.

    Good Luck!!

Trim back the amount you are feeding him or put him on a premium diet. All of mine are on Wellness Core and are lean and perfect body condition. Daily walks 30mins or more will help…you could play fetch, or Frisbee, anything that will get his cardio up!

Just like a person. Healthy food, smaller portions, and exercise.

How much you feed depends on what kind of food you feed. Only feed him twice a day, no free feeding.

Take him for a walk at least once a day for 30 minutes. Try to get out twice a day if you can. And go longer than 30 minutes if you have time and as your dog gets more fit. If you like jogging, take him jogging. You can try to teach him to run beside a bike if you like to ride. Just ease him into it, and condition him to whatever activity you are going to do.

Well, what you could do is make a schedule to take him for a walk at least 2 times a day, one early in the morning and one late at night. by the you will get him fully awake in the morning and have tired him out by night time. plus he will have also trimmed down over the course of the next month. also you may want to stick to a healthy diet of a variety of dog food with many meats in it. but get the kind for fat dogs ::P like diet cans? hope i helped

    p.s. answer mine?
