Messenger dog leaping across shell holes on its way to headquarters, in France, during World War I. The collie dog bounding its way across the shell holes is carrying messages to company headquarters. Rolled up messages placed inside waterproof containers would have been attached to the dogs collar, as it moved units in the front line trenches. Keeping a pet also helped to maintain the morale of the soldiers, by adding a touch of domestic home life to the trench.

The famous Battersea Dogs’ Home in London was where the British army recruited dogs to carry out messenger duties on the Western Front. After suitable dogs had been selected, they were then taken to The War Dog Training School in Shoeburyness to be trained. After the initial training had been successfully completed, the dogs were posted to Etaples in France for further training, before being sent up to the front line.

Right now I have a dog (she’s a Maltipoo) and her name is Sadie.
My all time favorite dogs names are the really funny, ironic, ghetto, or unoriginal names like:
Shanequa, Stripes (for a dalmation, OH THE IRONY!), Spot (for a dalmation, very original), Mr. Pafoodledoodles.
As for names I’ve always wanted to name a dog:
Well, if I bought an orange cat with black stripes I would want to name him Hobbes, but for a dog… I would buy a tiny white teacup poodle and name him a really manly name like Killer or LIghtning or Josh.

    Heck yeah.
