Human nail clippers are designed to cut nails that are flat. Dog nail trimmers are made to cut nails that are round as a dog's nails are shaped. Maybe the dog trimmers you have are defective if it twists the nails–that shouldn't happen.

i highly DO NOT recommend human nail clippers because the bacteria can hurt the dog or you so i guess you should let the groomer take care of that when it gets its hair cut.

If the tip of the nail will fit in a human nail clipper you can use them. If the dogs nails are too large to fit in there you need to use clippers designed for dogs.

You do have to avoid cutting the nail too short regardless of which clippers you use, just be careful. Have some corn starch close in case you do clip into the quick. The corn starch will clot the blood & can be easily washed off or just let it wear off.
