Question by Jillian: Why in dog show pictures are some dogs/handlers sitting down?
I am very into dog shows, but still just stepping into the world. A friend of mine just got a best in show and she and the dog were sitting in their picture, when normally they stack the dog. Especially for a BIS photo, I found this weird. Is it up to the photographer, the judge, or is there some sort of tradition to sit on a first BIS win photo?

Maybe they were tired and just happened to be sitting at the time the photo was taken.

I believe its because the dog wouldn’t stack properly at that specific moment. Dogs tend to get tired. They need to take the photo, so the best scenario is to sit them dog. Its still a Beautiful photo!
It depends on who is paying for the picture. It’s not up to the judge and the photographer may make a suggestion, but the person who is paying for it has the final say.
I wanted an action shot when my Papillon got his CDX, so the photographer waited until the ring was empty before taking the pictures. Another time I had my dog sitting. There’s no set rule or tradition.
