I just bought a massive pillow/bed thing for my dog who seems determind not to use it and has resigned herself to sleeping on the hard tile floor…………. I don't think she grasps the concept of what it is.

you have to let her know that it's hers – call her over and feed her while she's lying on it, do it regularly, soon enough it'll be habit for her to stay on there.

Oh my word!! My puppy does the SAME thing. He sniffs his bed, then walks away and sleeps in the kitchen hardwood.
The bed I bought him was a soft, snuggly little pillow thingy with blankets and side pillows. It looks so comfortable! Recently, I found out that he doesn’t even sleep there!! So I bought a new one, this one.. a little more simple. Just one soft mat. No pillows, or massive blankets to make him feel uncomfortable. And he LOVES it. He sleeps, plays and even eats there. I didn’t realize that dogs don’t like all the royalty beddings like big blankets or pillows. Don’t look at the size or look of it, matters belong to how good it feels.
Ha Ha. We bought my 5 year old Golden a nice, $ 375 demin dog bed, and he just layed on my carpet.
I would say lay down on the bed with her until she goes to sleep, and make sure she stays there the rest of the night. That’s what I did with my dog, and he sleeps there every night now.
give her food while she is on it. and maybe it is to fluffy or smells odd. dogs can sense stuff like that.

sometimes dogs like the coolness of the floor over something warm,they dont have sweat glands, so they have to pant to cool off, and you cant sleep while panting.
my lab blizzard hates his bed i think he gets to hot sleeping on it he likes the coolness of the floor he actually slept uner it squshed in the corner of his cage ( we keep him in a cage only at night he still chews on things and he loves his cage when hes tierd he will go to it so im not mean hes just is comfortable in it) i think that if he wants to sleep on the bed he will try getting him on it and having him lay down to show him what it is and that its ok for him to be on it
