Parasites might be able to jump from one pet to another.

    Ex: Fleas, ticks, etc.

However, viruses and bacteria may or may not be able to jump from one species to another. Rule of thumb for me is if it can be transferred from pet to person, it can be transferred from pet to pet(pet of another species).

Most diseases are not cross species, this is why you can’t give your dog a cold. Just give them both heartworm medication and treatments for fleas and ticks. You’ll be fine, plenty of people have both with no problems.
