Question by Jill M: How do I get my dog to stop shredding her bed?
I crate my dog and I try to put a dog bed in there for her so she has something soft to lay on but every time I do I come home and the bed is completely ripped apart. I've tried blankets, dog , furry pads, supposedly indestructable beds and yet she has ripped every single one apart. She has bones and kongs and toys in there for her to pass the time, but it doesn't help.
She's in there for 8 hrs while I'm at work.
She will be 2 in April and we do take her to our local dog park to get exercise. I cannot take her to work and there is nothing wrong with keeping a dog in a crate.

If you go to a pet store ask for flavoring spray that will stop a dog from chewing on items. My own dog chewed on everything she could find as a puppy until we found spray that won’t harm her at all it just has a sour taste to it. (also wont discolor or effect the bed in any way shape or form)

the ripping of the bed is a type of aggression. the dog needs more exercises. if you exercises him more that might help with the issue at hand.

I am having a similar problem with my 8 month old pup atm. WHat I did, I called the dog trainer she had for puppy school, and now there are adolescent obedience classes which I enrolled her in. Obedience training is good and lets your dog socialise with other dogs as well.

Make your dog sleep on the cold, hard floor, and maybe she’ll think twice next time before she destroys her bed.

rub lemons or something really bitter on it
should stop her from chewing it apart when she tastes it

Dabble a little bit of spice to a part of it where she chews…it wont harm her, but she won’t like the taste so she won’t do it again. If she DOES do it again just repeat the process.

    you dont kill it
you don’t take the bed away (It’s HER bed)

Your dog is bored. Exercise her more.

8 hours? Ack! How would you act locked in a crate for 8 hours. Yikes.

Just take them out. My manchester is down to a towel because she has destroyed everything else. makes me glad she is in a crate instead of roaming the house tearing up my stuff!

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stacia_Napierkowska

Stacia Napierkowska (16 September 1891 – 11 May 1945) was a French actress and dancer, who worked during the silent film era. She appeared in 86 films between 1908 and 1926.

In 1913, she was arrested during a performance of one of her dances in New York City when it was declared indecent. After returning to France, Napierkowska said, "Really, I have not brought away a single pleasant memory from the United States" and "What a narrow-minded people they are — how utterly impervious to any beautiful impression!"
