“homeless animal population” homeless is natural for an animal. If they where not fit for living on their own they would all be stone dead. If they are a pest, then the only options are: Kill those dogs that you can’t find a home for, try to get people to castrate dogs so they don’t produce more offspring’s. Just like we do with cats.

I think it’s partly due to the economy. Also, Michigan’s biggest industry packed up and left them for Mexico several years ago. They no longer have work, one of my old teachers came from there and said he became a professor literally because his family no longer had a job for him when he graduated. It is sad, but it’s happening a lot there right now. I agree with neutering/spaying pets, it would help a ton. Also, those dogs can and will kill pets for food and sometimes people if they need food.

I know one thing they can do… They can set humane traps, capture the dogs and spay and neuter them with shots before turning them loose again. I know it might not seem like much, but it seems like at least some of them are still intact. If a vet is kind enough to volunteer their time and money, it would be a massive improvement to the situation. I know it doesn’t help short term with the homeless animal problem, but it helps long term with the amount of animals loose in the city.
