There are dog doors where they are only opened by a sensor on the dog’s collar. It’s like a garage door opener almost. They are more expensive, but more secure.

Actually you can get a motorized style of door that only opens with a special magnet on the dogs collar, it is made out of a plexiglass or other sturdy material and even has an off switch for nightime use, you can find it on the internet, but it will cost you some $ $ $ .
    Good luck!

I have the same concerns so i purchused a doggy door that i can lock from both the outside (im stiill not sure why) and a seperate lock inside, i use this when im not home. Now not knowing what type (size ) of dog u have u may need to move your doggy door next to or in actuall doors is the worst place to have them as thieves can reach in and open doors that way.
Petsmart is where i bought my lockable doorfrom

I would put a board in front of the door and get a lock

your dog door should have a security panel with it…if not…make one out of plywood…this is usually enough to deter any persons with ill intent

There are dog door blockers. These are usually used at night so the dogs cannot go outside.

You can put a lock of some sort from the inside of the house locking the dog door while not in use, especially at night.
Or, you can buy a new dog door that has a locking mechanism for it.
    Good luck!
