Question by Animal Res-Q-er: How much does a dog, dog supplies, and first vet visit cost?
I am looking to get a puppy and raise enough money myself. The puppy I want is about $ 400. All those dog owners out there, how much would all the supplies for the puppy be (food, toys etc.) ? And how much did your first vet visit cost? And what types of shots do they give?
Thanks much!

Are Bully Sticks Safe for Dogs?
Before I explain what a Bully Stick actually is (you might be surprised!), let me first address the “why” of Bully Sticks. Dogs can, at times, be a pain in the backside. Dogs – especially those dogs who normally get a lot of attention – tend to get very bored when you are away or […]
The Unavoidable Dog Poop Bags
It ain’t fun, but somebody’s got to do it. Right? Some disturbing thoughts: 40 percent of dog owners never clean up their dog’s poop. Ever. 90 percent let their dogs “take care of business” in their own yards, and nearly a third of that group never cleans up after their dogs. Even at home. 80 […]
4 Dog Ownership Costs Most People Don’t Consider
Owning a dog is a big responsibility. Not only will it change your lifestyle, but it will also change your budget. Dogs are expensive to own, and before you invest in a dog, it’s very important that you understand just how much it’s going to cost. Unfortunately, when most people create a budget for owning […]

I have been looking around at vet costs as well and I saw that at Petco.com they offer vaccinations by licensed veterinarians. I called to check on times and dates and they generally do it one or two saturdays a month. When I called they said I should expect to pay around $ 40, which beats the $ 160 at another vet clinic in town. Hope that helps!
It’s more than the first vet visit and supplies, hun.
It’s the annual/twice annual visits, the shots, the emergencies, the altering, the grooming, the supplies, more supplies, even *more* supplies, the emergency *fund*.
Cost is something you need to contact your vet about. It cost different amounts in different places.
First vet visit for my two pups was about $ 70 for both. That was parvo/distemper, couldn’t do rabies at the time because they were too young.
Food cost depends on what kind you’re buying. I’d just go to wal-mart and get puppy formula dog cow or beneful. Toys are pretty cheap, they don’t need to be fancy, just able to hold up against the puppy’s needle teeth.
Well, for supplies it depends a lot on what kind of dog you get, and the prices where you live. Go to your nearest pet supply store and see.
Vet visits also vary according to location. A call to your local vet clinic will give you the information you need.
Oh gosh, it really depends on the vet you take your dog too. My dog’s first vet’s visit cost us $ 1200. It included two shots, advantage flee control and a puppy pack filled with toys and bones. It was a bit much, but he’s totally worth it.
It also depends on the size of your dog. Mine is a yorkie-poo, so he didnt cost as much, as say a Black lab or a Great dane.
