Question by : Can I walk my dog in 30 degree weather without a jacket?
My mom accidently threw out the dogs jackets. They have about an 1 1/2 inches of fur, but they are small dogs. Do you think that they will be fine?
they are 8-9 years old. pekingese/poodle mix, and bichon frise/maltese mix

Yes it should be fine as long as the walk isn't a very long one. Dogs have a highers body temp. than humans do so they are warmer and can withstand colder temperatures than we can; i believe their normal body temp. is around 102-ish.

30 degrees is nothing. I have a poodle too (toy) and she’s a prissy little thing 6 or 7 years old. Your dog will let you know when they are cold. It has gotten -20 here and we still have to go potty. We don’t stand out very long. lol
Once when it was blowing and snowing and below 0, I wrapped a hand towel around her belly then put the coat on. I had a mini poodle who would sit down when it was to cold for a walk and not go any further when I gave in she would prance right to the door. The great thing about little dogs is they can exercise in the house on cold days.
so be attentive to your dogs, be creative, and they will do just fine. oh yeah and knit em a new coat.
Dogs dont need jackets. They already have fur coats.
They should b fine but dont hav the walk go on to long. If they start shivering bring them straite home!! And also try holding them and carrying them home if they r shivering.
Make the walk short. The little dogs DO need their jackets…replace them as soon as you can! Smooth coated dogs need them…no matter the size…they have no insulation in their fur.
I have a puppy, and I always take him out in that weather.
