I enjoy his display and consent with him fully. I have observed people that handle their dogs like youngsters and the dogs are never properly trained or under manage.

I watch Dog Whisperer as well as It’s Me or the Dog. I believe that there is no “perfect” training method. He is 100% correct that treating a dog as if it were a child is wrong and causes problems for the dog. His methods will not work for everyone or every dog. Take it with a grain of salt, I’ve mixed and matched methods with decent results while trying to modify my dog’s behavior. I like Cesar, although I do have issues with a couple of his techniques.
add: the disclaimer is there to prevent an ignorant dog owner from trying it and then suing them when it fails to work.
I think he is great. He knows what he is talking about.
Ceaser does work wonders doesn’t he. Some of the dogs he works with are real terrors. I find it funny that more than half the time, the dogs problem is not the dog, its the owner and the way the owner interacts with the dog. My daughter and I love Daddy. He is the greatest dog and a perfect example of a good pit bull. It just goes to show you, a dog will respond to whatever type of attention is given to it.
A dog IS an animal and not a child and anyone treating them as such is doing a disservice to the dog and is pretty silly to boot. You did notice the disclaimer on the show, did you not? That these are not recommended training techniques but the sad thing is that they are still being shown and every fool that doesn’t know what they are doing will most certainly try the techniques and mess things up or worse. Having cookie cutter ‘solutions’ for all dogs is poor training technique to begin with – selling it to the foolish public that will always be silly enough to consider canine species as ‘fur babies’ is even worse… it is a given they will disregard the disclaimer and try the techniques without knowing the first thing about what they are doing. He does recommend altering dogs which is about the best thing he does.
As a positive dog trainer, I disagree with many of Cesar’s methods. He uses aversive techniques that have the potential to scare and hurt dogs. Instead of aversive techniques, I use reward-based training, so the training sessions are fun for the dog and owner. When you are watching the show, try turning off the sound and just watching the dog’s body language when Cesar is working with him. Many times, the dog looks fearful or defensive.
i love his show…it totally makes sense…and ive used some of his methods and they really work!!!!
I do watch the Dog Whisperer and do agree with alot of what he says, but not everything. I do believe a dog should be treated like a dog and not like a small child.
personally i dont like the methods that they teach. they r dangerous to the dog. and if i were to need a trainer (which i dont. my dogs r very well behaved) i would consult one that i can actually talk to. not one that i saw on TV.
I like him. I do not apply his methods because at the beginning of every episode they put up the warning: Do not try what you see on this program at home bla bla. I believe there is a reason for that.
I think he has some good ideas (a dog is a dog…and people NEED to respect that they are NOT small furry children, most dogs don’t get nearly enough exercise, and owners do need to establish themselves as the leader) but I really don’t think he’s awesome or particularly educating. It really bothers me that he uses intimidation techniques for virtually every dog he works with.
The guy is a genius. I’m getting ready to watch the new episode right now! Cheers.
Caesar Milan does some great stuff for dogs in need, and I love that he stresses the importance of spaying or neutering your pet, and of adopting and working with aggressive or timid animals in need. The issue I have with him is that all of his training is very physical. He uses techniques that can just as easily backfire on you as they can fix your problem. His line of work requires years of specific work and training for it to be appropriate.
I LOVE Cesar Millan! I think he is an excellent and knowledgeable dog trainer and behaviorist! I want to become a trainer eventually so I love reading his work. And I agree with him when he says that a dog is an animal, not a child. People tend to feed and coddle dogs like children when really they just want to be dogs! He also says to love them and pet them and give them affection!
