NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Around-the-clock care was not enough to save a severely emaciated puppy found at a home in Niagara Falls.
The Niagara County SPCA reports Jonah, a 7-week-old Labrador retriever mix puppy, died late Wednesday evening at Central Park Animal Hospital.

Jonah and his mother, Nellie, as well as another adult dog were removed from the lower apartment at a home on 12 Street this past Sunday. Jonah and Nellie were extremely emaciated.
The SPCA says both dogs were given immediate medical attention, and though Nellie began to recover, Jonah’s condition worsened. In an attempt to help Jonah regain strength, he was fed with a tube, but the intervention didn’t come soon enough and the damage could not be reversed. Jonah passed away late Wednesday night.
His mother and the other dog, Dorian, remain at the SPCA as authorities work on obtaining a warrant for their owner, who will face three counts of animal cruelty.
